What is an Au pair?
An “Au Pair” is someone who lives with a host family in a different country as part of a cultural exchange. The term comes from French and means “on par” or “equal to.” Au Pairs join in the family’s daily life, share meals, and make the family’s home their own. They help with childcare and light housework and receive a weekly allowance for personal use. This allows both the Au Pair and the host family to learn about each other’s cultures and ways of life, making it a great chance for both to grow and explore new things. Au Pairs need to have experience with children, but they don’t need formal childcare qualifications.
